Review: Turn the People - Monks of Mellonwah

Remember the name Monks of Mellonwah, because they're here to take over the music industry. These Australian natives are completely redefining the alternative rock genre with their unique sound and captivating lyrics. In the past, they've even been compared to the likes of Muse, Black Keys, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now, they're getting ready to release their first full-length album, Turn the People.

Turn the People, which was originally recorded into three different EPs, features 13 tracks in total. While there isn't one "bad" song on the album, there are definitely some that deserve special attention. In particular, we cannot get enough of the lead single, "Tear Your Hate Apart". That's because it's so original. It has a way of combining an electronic sound, with falsetto vocals, leaving us wanting more and more. We recommend blasting it in your car with the windows down. Yes, it's that kind of song.

Another one of our favorite tracks is "Pulse", thanks to its dancey beat that you can't help but jam out to. At times, it's the type of song you'd expect to hear from Daft Punk, but then there's the whole soulful, darker side to it as well. While we loved the whole Incubus vibe these guys were emitting with their older music, this is clearly where they shine best.

If dance, electronic tracks aren't your thing, don't worry. They have ballads too, like "I Belong to You". This number is haunting, drawing you in with its soft, acoustic melody. Then, there are the lyrics like "Danger keeps me down, I think I'm afraid I'll sink or drown before the lights go out," which rip your heart out. It's that raw, emotion of despair that will hook you in.
