The Golden Globe award-winning series about everyone’s favorite show choir kicked off its fifth season last Thursday night. A new couple was formed, a marriage proposal was in full effect, Broadway dreams were within reach, there’s a new (evil) principal taking over McKinley High, and to top it all off…it’s all about The Beatles!!
Recap of Glee: “Love, Love, Love”
Broadway Dream Slump
Rachel has her reading audition for “Funny Girl”, which is her all-time favorite musical. However, it seems like the Broadway plays’ director (portrayed by Peter Facinelli) and the leading actor (portrayed by Ioan Gruffudd) fear that while Rachel looks the part and defiantly possesses the talent to play the lead, she might be too young to handle the pressure for such a big role. Rachel overhears them and sadly leaves the theatre singing, “Yesterday”.
New Assignment for New Directions
For the first time ever, Will Schuester, gives his ND a two-week assignment singing songs from the classic rock band, The Beatles. He encourages them to take some of the iconic bands’ early songs and make them new and exciting.
“You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”…Literally
Artie and Kitty have a love connection going on. The two go to the carnival together where they along with their other choir friends sing, “Drive My Car”. It’s there that Kitty tells Artie that she considers them to be “more than friends”, but she wants to keep the fact that they’re an item on the down-low because she cares what the other girls on the Cheerios will think of her if she’s seen with Artie. Artie and Kitty spend the week at school meeting in an empty classroom and sending cute notes to each other while they sing “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”. You can clearly see that Artie is torn up about this, but says nothing. However, Tina catches on and outs Kitty’s treatment towards Artie. Kitty tells Artie that she wanted to be sure she really, really liked him (really) before she goes public with him and tosses her social status down the drain. And a new couple emerges from the ashes!
Reunited and it Feels So Good
Blaine finally convinces Kurt to give him another chance by swearing to never ever, ever cheat on him again. Kurt gives in and happily says yes. The two end up singing, “Got to Get You In My Life” accompanied by McKinley’s marching band
She’s B-a-a-ack!
After filling Principal Figgins’ with gay pornographic magazines and other incriminating evidence that would surely get him fired, Sue Sylvester returns to McKinley as the new principal for the time being and Figgins is now a janitor while currently under investigation.
“Help”
Blaine is moving forward with his plan to ask Kurt to marry him. But this isn’t going to be an ordinary proposal. Blaine wants to make a statement and gets everyone from ND, Vocal Adrenaline, The Warblers, and the school for the deaf to help him.
Let Me Prove It To You
Santana gets Rachel a job as waitress at a diner on Broadway where she currently works. The best part? The waiting staff gets to break out in song from time to time, which proves to be beneficial when the director and lead actor from “Funny Girl” show up. Rachel, along with her colleagues sing, “A Hard Day’s Night” as a way for Rachel to prove to that she is a star and she is ready to take on the lead role.
What’s Eating Tina Cohen-Chang?
It’s safe to say that Tina is depressed. She’s not her usual chirpy self anymore and it might have to do with being dumped by two guys and falling for a gay one. Blaine, Sam, Jake, and Ryder decide to serenade Tina with “When I Saw Her Standing There” in full Beatles costume. In the end, Sam, Ryder, and Blaine offer their services as her prom date. Tina decides to go with Sam.
“All You Need Is Love”
Kurt’s dad drives Kurt to Dalton Academy where Kurt is already aware that Blaine plans on proposing. Kurt is a little on the fence because he feels that they’re too young. Upon arrival, Blaine who comes out singing, “All You Need Is Love”, greets Kurt in front of Dalton. Rachel, Santana, Mercedes, Kurt’s dad, and Mr. Schu are all in attendance as well. In the end, Blaine proposes to Kurt on the steps where they first met. Kurt tearfully says yes.
