Review: Send the Night - The Walking Sticks

If you're a fan of artists like HAIM, Arcade Fire, Radiohead and Tame Impala, it's time to check out The Walking Sticks. This band, based out of Maryland, is comprised of lead vocalist Chelsea Lee and twin brothers Spencer and Max Ernst. Since taking off in 2011, they've been delivering a dream pop/downtempo sound that's completely unique from anything else you'll hear on the music scene today. Now The Walking Sticks are ready to share more of their music with the world.

Earlier this year, the trio released a new four-track EP titled Send the Night. This EP, which they wrote all by themselves, has a very different feel from the band's debut album, World So Bright. Besides the lack of Lee's vocals, World So Bright had a clear acoustic influence. Send the Night, however, showcases a more produced sound that even uses synthesizers at times. That's not the only difference though. With the addition of Lee, The Walking Sticks took on a more bluesy sound that we can't get enough of.

Our favorite number off the EP has to be the title song. This track gives a serious 60s, old-school vibe. In fact, it reminds us of something we would hear straight from vintage bands like Fleetwood Mac. At the same time though, the music doesn't sound outdated or reused. In a time of techno and rap, this is a much welcomed change. "Send the Night" features Steuart Smith, the lead guitarist of the Eagles. Throughout our listen to "Send the Night", we couldn't get over Lee's soulful and powerful vocals. Then mix in the fantastic harmonies in that number, and it's no wonder this band was chosen as The Deli Magazine National's artist of the month for October 2013. Their voices blend perfectly together.

Trust us when we say that this is one band you don't want to miss out on. Make sure to buy your copy of Send the Night and check out their official site, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts. Also, don't forget to watch their music video for "Send the Night" below:
