Yesterday, a Cali-based duo that I have watched grow in popularity and talent since discovering them for myself did it again when they released a mash-up cover to the songs "Power Trip" by J. Cole ft. Miguel and "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe" by Kendrick Lamar.
These two beautiful California Girls, who also happen to be real-life sisters, go by the stage name "VanJess". A combination of both of their first names - Ivana and Jessica. They have been on YouTube garnering a massive following over the years for their covers and mash-ups to a lot of mainstream artist's music.
A personal favorite of mine has been their R&B Medleys; a mix of popular 90's R&B tracks mashed up so perfectly you'd think it's all one song if you didn't already know most of the hits. In 2012, VanJess released their very first official music video for "Drumroll". The video itself was tasteful, fun, and perfect for the feel of the song and each girl's style.
Getting back to the current video, I LOVE what they did with both songs and also the band that collaborated with them on this mash-up: 2 O'Clock Sunday. I look forward to seeing them join forces with this band again and also for their debut EP - '00 Till Escape' which will drop in July along with a BRAND NEW music video! If these girls continue grinding the way they do, prepare to see them on MTV and the likes of such channels soon!
