Last Sunday night, we had the privilege of attending Wildwood's Wild 100 Pop Concert. The event was part of Wildwood's centennial anniversary celebration and featured performers such as Hot Chelle Rae, Austin Mahone, and Rebecca Black. It was one of the biggest music gatherings to come to New Jersey in years so naturally we were there to cover it all for you guys. Check out our full concert review below:
When we arrived at the Oceanfront Arena, we were able to enter the venue with all of the VIPs thanks to our press passes. This gave us the opportunity to catch some of the bands soundchecking for their sets later in the day. When we got to the main stage (there were two of them), we watched Action Item finishing up their soundcheck for some fans. They sounded great and only made us more excited to check them out later in the day.
After soundcheck, we aimlessly walked around and checked our the merchandise booths before we met up with J-14 Magazine. Luckily, we were able to tag along with them when they interviewed The Ready Set's Jordan Witzigreuter on the tour bus. Witzigreuter filled us in on his upcoming tour with Boys Like Girls and The All-American Rejects, his new single Give Me Your Hand (Best Song Ever), and of course his traveling companion Backpack (cutest dog ever).
After chatting with him, we ran to catch Action Item's set side stage. They sang all their hits like "Learn to Fly" and "Marching Band", with the crowd loving them every step of the way. We've seen them perform a bunch of times (I mean, they are Jersey boys after all), and they never ever disappoint. You can also tell they genuinely love their fans which is always refreshing.
Straight after Action Item, we went to the VIP room to check out Forever The Sickest Kids at their meet and greet. They graciously signed and took pictures with all their fans. Afterwards, Jonathan Cook and Caleb Turman took us over to their RV, named Morgan Freeman. We caught up with them for a bit and got a nice tour of where they spend all their time on the road. They're seriously the sweetest guys.
Then, we got to sit in on J-14 Magazine's interview with Hollywood Ending. We have seen them multiple times on tour with Allstar Weekend but never met them before. Not only are they talented, but super nice too. Their set was incredible as well. They sang songs like "You Got Me" and "Hollywood Ending". We have to say though that their song "One Wish" is our favorite. We haven't been able to get it out of our heads since the concert.
Then, we went back into the VIP room and was pleasantly surprised to find out Alex Goot was about to perform a small, intimate acoustic performance for some fans. He was great. Who doesn't love a guy that plays the piano?!
Next up was Rebecca Black. She had the crowd on their feet singing her songs "My Moment" and of course "Friday". I don't think there was a soul there who wasn't belting out the megahit with her. She was having a blast and owning the stage. We are now a fan.
After Black's set, Forever the Sickest Kids were up. These guys are such crowd-pleasers. They sang so many of their hits like "Whoa Oh" and "Hey Brittany". We were jamming out like crazy side stage, as were the massive crowd that formed to watch their set. There was even a ton of crowd surfing going on throughout their whole performance.
Shortly after FTSK left the stage, The Ready Set took over. The amount of energy Jordan Witzigreuter has on stage is unbeatable. He danced and sang his heart out to songs like "Young Forever", "Love Like Woe", and "Give Me Your Hand (Best Song Ever)". Fun fact: during The Ready Set's performance Rebecca Black joined us at side stage to jam out to Witzigreuter (yes, this included intense jumping up and down). She told us she's a huge fan of his. Black is such a sweetheart.
Next up was Austin Mahone. Oh Austin Mahone, the girls love you. We're fairly certain you could hear the screams from miles away. He puts on quite the show, with his incredible dancers in tow. I think our favorite part of his set was when he covered the Jonas Brothers' "When You Look Me in the Eyes". That's such a great song and he even brought fans on stage to sing to them during this part. Lucky! We also loved when he sang his songs "Say Somethin" and "11:11". Our jams!
Last but not least, Hot Chelle Rae took the stage. They're one of our favorite bands out right now. We last saw them when they opened for Demi Lovato this past summer. Of course they sang all their hits like "Tonight Tonight" and "I Like It Like That", which had the crowd going crazy. Another highlight of their performance was their cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream". We're going to officially say it here. Their cover of that song is our favorite cover of it ever. Yes, even better than the Glee version. They definitely ended Wildwood's Wild 100 Pop concert perfectly.
