This new music video for Wide Awake shows us a darker side of Katy Perry. I vaguely remember hearing that this new batch of music will be very different from the days of pink wigs, cupcake bras, and cotton candy clouds fans are used to.

On first listen, the song has a softer, darker sound. The song itself isn't amazing at first but lyrically and (visually in the music video) it's great. Instead of singing about daisy dukes and kissing girls, the song actually feels like there is some pain behind it. Pain inspires some of the best music.
Is she singing about her career? Or perhaps her divorce?
