Pretty Little Liars - 3x02 - Blood Is The New Black - Recap

For Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily, things are only getting worse. Not only do they have to worry about Mona not working alone, the A messages are happening again. Only this time, is A sending body parts? And what about Jenna? Is she more dangerous than ever now that she can see?

Here is our recap of Blood Is The New Black:

Poor Emily has to try and focus on passing her make-up tests. It's kind of hard when, on top of everything else, she's getting necklaces made out of teeth with scary messages put in her backpack. Seriously, whose teeth are those? And whose fingerprints would be on them if Spencer hadn't accidentally flushed them down the toilet?

Among the filler storylines tonight involves one of my most hated characters. Meredith. And Aria's dad by default. Meredith is trying to get a teaching job at Aria's school and now that her parents are divorced, that's the last person she wants to see. I can't stand Meredith and her smug smile like she's done nothing wrong. Ugh. Team Aria. Why am I Team Aria? Well, back in the day, Alison convinced Aria to trash her dad's office and make it look like Meredith did it by planting an earring in the couch. Man. Alison was a nutball. It makes you wonder though, when Aria is sent one of the earrings she found that day..especially because it was buried in Alison's casket.

Why would you put a home wrecker's earring in your dead friend's casket?

Aria asks Ezra to help tutor Emily so she can pass her exams but Emily's heart really isn't in it. She only finishes half the test. I have to say it's a little suspicious that Ezra goes all the way to Emily's school to ask Ella how she did. Maybe they just don't have anything to do with him right now as a character. But Emily did great because Ella felt bad for her and filled in the test for her. I wish I would have had her for a teacher.

Emily freaked out during her test because she remembered something else from "That Night": Who was driving the car she was in. It was Jenna. As in blind Jenna. What?? So does this confirm Jenna had something to do with the grave robbery? Who was in the passenger seat?

I was kind of hoping it was Melissa driving. Melissa's evil is just more fun. Jenna has gotten boring and predictable. But at least her secret is out. The girls trick Jenna into proving to them that she can see while they spy on her. Spencer urges the girls to keep it to themselves so they can use this to their advantage. Jenna "acting blinder" isn't going to save her now.

Garrett is still begging Spencer for help during her visits and tells her that "Somebody you know well has you completely fooled." But now that I look back on this, I'm thinking he's talking about Jenna. Especially because he mentioned medical records. Ugh. That's so boring and again, predictable. No one thinks Jenna is innocent here. Give us a shocker. Make it Melissa.

Spencer's mom discovers her daughter has been secretly visiting Garrett so she absolutely forbids her to go again. Spencer, being the badass that she is, goes anyway. She is shocked to see that she isn't the only Hastings there. Spencer's mom has apparently secretly decided to represent Garrett. I hope she helps him to lose. He's annoying. But how did Garrett convince her? Does he have something on Spencer? Or Melissa?

Caleb goes with Hanna on yet another visit to Mona. He's not so thrilled to realize Hanna has been lying to him about coming to see Mona and the hot British doctor. Hanna loses it on Mona and like, throws a chair. Don't we all throw chairs when we're angry?

Mona finally speaks and it's a short sentence. "You're getting them again aren't you?" Meaning the texts. But that's all we get out of her because of course, visiting hours are over and Mona has a sharp pair of tweezers to dig into her hands and cause herself to bleed. Why aren't these visits monitored? Sheesh.

What did you think of the episode? I thought it was a little slow. It's a little early in the season to have an episode with so much filler so I'm hoping the rest of the season picks up the pace a bit and decides to not be predictable. My favorite scene of the night however is courtesy of Aria:

I'm about ready to hang a sign: BITCH CAN SEE.
