Oh no. Another American Idol judge is out. US Weekly is reporting that Nicki Minaj is leaving the reality show at the end of this season. Apparently the rap superstar wants to focus more of her time on her music, touring, and endorsements. This isn't the first bit of news to come out about next season. Randy Jackson has already confirmed that he's leaving the show. There's no word yet if Mariah Carey and Keith Urban are returning in the fall.
It's hard to believe those are the reasons Minaj isn't returning in the fall. What about that time she showed up late to a live show and completely missed the first contestant perform? Talk about unprofessional. Or those times (yes, there were many) when she bickered with Carey and caused unnecessary drama? Honestly, there's no wonder why the ratings for American Idol are at an all time low.
Speaking as a one time die-hard fan, this show lacks the spark it once had. When it was Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Jackson there was a comradery. They had the contestants' best interest in mind and weren't using the show to self promote. Now, it just all seems so obviously scripted and manufactured. Please whoever the powers that be are, if you have any hope of saving this show, go back to the formula you once had. Let it be about the contestants and get judges that actually know what they're talking about.
