If you're a fan of artists like Massive Attack, Muse, Radiohead and Depeche Mode, you're going to want to check out Aurganic. This alternative/electronic duo is comprised of long-time friends Mike and Leo. They first came together back in high school when they were part of a local punk rock band. As their music tastes started to change, they decided to create the band Aurganic. Since their startup in 2010, they've released a self-titled EP and full-length album called Life as a Canvas. Now, they're ready to hit the charts again with their follow up CD, Deviations.
In the past, Aurganic's music could best be described as a mix of electronica, art rock, and jazz styles fused together. Thankfully, this is exactly what they deliver on the new record. The CD has twelve tracks, including "Waking Trials", "Lucid" and "Single Motion Sound". Similar to their Life as a Canvas album, Deviations features vocal and instrumental collaborations from local Toronto artists. One track that really stands out to us is "Outcast". The song touches upon the idea of feeling like you need to change who you are to fit in with the world around you. With its powerful lyrics like "sail to the shore full speed and break away" and "unleash the desire within", Aurganic spreads a message that it's okay to be different, it's okay to be an 'outcast'.
Another number we loved is "Easy" ft. Jessica Stuart. We can't get enough of the falsetto vocals and catchy drum beat on this number. This is definitely our favorite collaboration on Deviations. Like "Outcast", "Easy" showcases Aurganic's strong songwriting skills. "Easy" tells the story of a woman who is torn between two loves. While she's currently in a relationship, she can't stop wanting to be with her lover. The woman doesn't want to hurt anybody, but she knows that she needs to make a decision on who she wants to be with. These lyrics are so compelling, that we can't help but listen to this track over and over.
Last month, the guys put out a music video for their song "Choices". This is such a strong video with a great message that will leave you inspired. It depicts three different scenarios that unfortunately happen all the time around the world. This includes drug use, gay hate crimes, and domestic disputes. "Choices" teaches us that we don't have to be silent to everything we see and hear. We need to start helping one another, and that starts by speaking out against any wrongdoings we witness. We can make the difference. Watch the music video for "Choices" below:
