Background vocals for the likes of Lady Gaga and Estelle, a shot at reality TV on the third season of The Voice, and now the frontwoman to her own band, Chevonne and The Fuzz, Chevonne is letting the world know that she’s coming and there is no stopping her. Chevonne and The Fuzz will be releasing their first ever EP, Fire at Will, on September 17, which was completely fan-funded. Now instead of leaving everyone to wait in anticipation until the arrival of their EP, Chevonne and The Fuzz were gracious and considerate enough to release one song off of their upcoming EP called, “Glow”, which kind of sets the stage for what people can expect to hear when the entire album comes out.
In an interview, Chevonne had this to say about the track, “The world of 'Glow' is this divey, dingy, dark shadowy bar where something shockingly beautiful and hopeful is waiting inside that'll change our lives forever. And we want you to get right in there with us."
Now I have to admit, after listening to “Glow” a few times, I did start to slowly build this picture in my head. And let’s be honest, when you go to a bar, there are so many people there that sometimes it’s hard to put faces to them. Everyone’s in their own little world, but this song is basically about finding that one person in the crowd whom you can put a face to and whom you spontaneously get a spark or connection from. The rarity of this happening is what makes this song beautiful.
New bands are formed every day. They go out and try to make a name for themselves, which is hard to do nowadays. You need to have that one thing that sets you apart from all the rest. It seems easy enough if that's all it takes, but that one thing has to be big enough to carry the band to stardom and keep it there. Not so easy now, huh?
I listened to “Glow” a few times to try and single out what makes Chevonne and The Fuzz different from everyone else in the music scene. I came to the conclusion that it’s not the band's sound or Chevonne’s voice that sets them apart because the sound is like any other band you'd hear on the radio. I’m not saying that Chevonne can’t sing because she definitely can, which is also very rare in the music industry these days. Instead, what makes this band stand out are their lyrics. The lyrics to “Glow” are inspiring that we can find that one person regardless of if we’re at a bar or not, but most importantly, they’re honest. And we all know honesty goes a long way.
So be sure to keep your ears and eyes open for Chevonne and The Fuzz and if you like them, be sure to buy their EP, Fire at Will on September 17. For now though, you can listen to "Glow" below:
